Late Fall in the Forest

Shoot Date: 11-18-2007

Almost like decorations, thick coats of Spanish moss adorn a stand of trees.

Nearly black-and-white in the pale afternoon light, fog leaches what color is left
from trees slipping into hibernation.

Water rushes everywhere through the forest, fed by tiny
streams spilling headlong down hillsides.

A cut log snug in its winter coat of moss and ferns

This ravine in the shadow of a hillside produces trees coated in thick moss, as
if they had put on wooly longjohns against the winter's chill.

Detail of moss-covered limbs from the scene above.

In a final autumn portrait, bare trees rise from fall's
lingering tones of deep yellow and russet.
