Views to the Outside

Though this complex was artfully designed, it was still a place of confinement, and
reminders of this fact are ever-present in the campus's decorative wrought iron
window bars and gates.  Still, residents here were surrounded by touches of nature:
the ubiquitous swallows darting to and from their nests in the buildings' eaves, tall
sycamores, exotic hibiscus and other flowering plants.
