To Brownsville and Beyond - 3

Shoot Date: 10-1-2009

Carlson's, the local lumber company, sits at the north end of Main Street.

Another cozy-looking home in the old part of Brownsville beckons with an arbor overflowing with flowers.

This tall window along the side of a Main Street shop displays jewelry, and shows off the old brickwork of which many nearby buildings are constructed.

The Linn County Museum, housed in this old train station and surrounding train cars, is small but packed with items of interest about the pioneers who came here during the 1800s.  There's even an actual wagon that came across from the Midwest along the Oregon Trail, and it's shocking to see how small it is.  As the museum worker said to me, "You basically walked across the country"  while the wagon carried your possessions.

Patterned brickwork and electrical wiring on the outside of buildings give a hint at the age of this part of town.

One unique feature of this friendly little town is that almost all the houses have house number signs like this one with not just their addresses but the names of the families who live inside.
